Open Molding of Type II Fiberglass Radomes for the Transportation Industry
Hanlon Industries was recently contracted by a transportation industry client located in Mineral Wells, Texas to produce a series of high-quality radomes. Combining our advanced open molding and mold building services, we successfully built these parts to meet precise customer specifications. With the ability to fulfill all of our client's unique product requirements, we now manufacture 200 radomes for this customer annually. We built each radome based off of a customer supplied print. Using hand lay-up processing, we were able to maintain a tight (¡¾) .005 of an inch precision tolerance on all dimensions, with an angular tolerance of just (¡¾) ¨ö degree. Using type II fiberglass material, we constructed each radome to measure precisely 8.031 inches in length, 7.034 inches in width, and 3.071 inches in height, with a flange thickness of .180 of an inch and a body thickness of just .090 of an inch. Each part measured 3 pounds.
After manufacturing was completed, we then provided each radome with a smooth finish, abrading the part lightly with 32-400 grit emery and removing any sharp burrs or edges. We also cleaned each piece with isopropyl rubbing alcohol, and then performed full dimensional inspections to ensure that each unit fulfilled client requirements. Once all operations were complete, we then shipped the radomes to our client's facility in Texas.
Combining our advanced molding services to manufacture high-quality custom plastic products, our radomes met with absolute client satisfaction. Due to our ability to successfully handle all of our client's product requirements, Fiberglass Engineering continues to produce 200 units annually for this client. |
